Due to the dramatic situation, President Vladimir Putin had extended his free time in Russia until May 11. Health Minister Mikhail Murashko also said the quarantine could not be lifted immediately after the epidemic peaked.

In addition to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, another member of the government has now contracted the virus. Construction minister Vladimir Yakushev was also ill, the state agency Tass reported. According to his ministry, he is being treated at the hospital. It was announced Thursday that the Prime Minister had become infected. He then temporarily resigned from office.
