The summer session of the National Council and the Council of States takes place in Bern. The Lucerne fair is thus empty-handed.
It is now clear that the summer session of the Federal Parliament will not take place in Lucerne. This has been decided by the parliamentary administrative delegation. The decision was communicated on Friday afternoon. Instead, the session will take place between June 2 and 19 in Bernexpo. The extraordinary session of the National Council and the Council of States next week is already taking place there.
The Lucerne fair is thus empty-handed. He was motivated by the federal government to present a corresponding offer. Upon request, spokeswoman Daniela Imsand is disappointed with Bern’s decision. “We are disappointed with every customer we lose,” she says. Messe Luzern has invested a lot of work into the offering, many people have “worked hard,” says Imsand. One was also convinced that the infrastructure of the Lucerne Exhibition Center would have been “very adequate” for the implementation of the session. But: “We have to accept the decision.”
CHF 100,000 price difference
Damian Müller is also disappointed. The Hitzkirch FDP Council of States had already brought Messe Luzern into play as the venue for a federal council session in March. Müller says: “The range at the Lucerne fair was very good.” He could not understand the decision.
The administrative delegation has published a cost comparison between the two locations. The price difference is only CHF 100,000. Bern has budgeted 3.84 million francs, Lucerne 3.94 million francs. For Damian Müller, the price raises questions: “The weeklong session in early May in Bernexpo costs CHF 3,125 million. And now three weeks in June cost only CHF 700,000 more? »It is” very strange that Bern is making such a cheap offer. ” In fact, Bernexpo has estimated 2.07 million Swiss francs for local rental just for the one-week special session. For the three weeks of June there are only 1.88 million francs. In Lucerne, the rental would have cost 1.57 million Swiss francs for three weeks.
“Where is the solidarity with our region?”
Damian Müller wonders if “the Lucerne fair was misused to get a cheaper offer from Bernexpo.” Furthermore, the FDP Council of States complained that Bernexpo’s offer had extrapolated costs that would no longer be incurred because they had already been incurred in preparation for next week’s special session. In fact, Lucerne, for example, will be charged 13,000 Swiss francs for activating the network, which is still included in Bernexpo’s offer for May, but is missing from the June offer. Security costs in Lucerne are also CHF 200,000 higher than in Bern. Why it is not clear. “This is not a fair comparison,” said Müller.
The Council of States says:
“It is an act of discrimination against central Switzerland.”
«Solidarity is always evoked in these times. In central Switzerland, tourism is on the ground until the end of the year. Where is the solidarity with our region? »In addition to hotels and restaurants, bakers and butchers also benefited from the session, Müller said. “Running the summer session in Lucerne would have been very important for Lucerne and for all of Central Switzerland,” he is convinced. And: “As Lucerne we have to fight”.
