Roman Josi and Mark Streit are now more important at SCB than Florence Schelling
Roman Josi and Mark Streit become co-owners of SCB and Mark Streit joins the SCB board of directors. Finally, SCB Sport is more important than beer and sausages in the hockey group.
No other hockey company outside of the NHL has struck a balance between economic reason and sports success as consistently as SC Bern in the past 20 years. Under the command and co-owner Marc Lüthi, the SCB has been in the black 21 times in a row and won six (!) Championship Titles (2004, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2019).
The expansion of the restaurant business has allowed sales to increase from CHF 15 million to almost CHF 60 million and to remain competitive in sports terms. Although wages have tripled since Marc Lüthi took office in 1998. With the sale of beer, wine, sausages, steaks and bread, SCB can fund the sports department. In reality, the SCB with 16 spots in Bern and its surroundings is what the Bindellas are with twice as many restaurants in Zurich, more than twice the size. With the difference that the SCB also has a hockey department in addition to the restaurant sector and the restaurant sector is slightly less oriented towards Italian cuisine than Bindellas.

In the summer of 2017, Sven Leuenberger, the most important man in the sport, left the SCB. Today he is the sports director for the ZSC Lions. With Sven Leuenberger, the SCB Group has lost the man CEO Marc Lüthi dared to contradict in sports matters and was the only one at SCB Fuchsbau who was so confident in speaking to Marc Lüthi at eye level and at the same volume.
Sven Leuenberger has not been replaced. Since leaving the sport at SCB, he has no internal voice. This was not necessarily due to the competence of his successor Alex Chatelain. Rather, the problem was a lack of assertiveness towards the charismatic group leader and the intention, in itself, not to do or say anything that might cost the job. The result: a master team has disintegrated in two years. But Alex Chatelain has suffered so well with Marc Lüthi that even after he was left as sports director at SCB, he received a pösteli.

The wool milk sow that lays eggs
Changing the scene For some time now, several SCB board members (Hans Dietrich, Rudolf Schnorf, Urs Schweizer, Jürg Bucher) have expressed their desire to resign. Just as Alex Chatelain was tasked with converting a master team, Marc Lüthi and its president Beat Brechbühl were faced with the task of renewing a successful board of directors. SCB’s boards of directors also own the company.

This renewal of the board was at least as difficult as putting together a new master team. This task was also about money and competition. The perfect solution, Wollmilchsau egg laying, so to speak, would be the new board members who have enough money to buy the stock packages of the retiring men, who understand the hockey business and are rooted in Bern. .
And lo and behold: Marc Lüthi found this perfect solution together with its president. The share packages being launched will be taken over by President Beat Brechbühl, Pascal Dietrich (the son of Hans Dietrich, who is retiring) and the two former SCB juniors Mark Streit and Roman Josi. Because a board mandate must be exercised personally and Roman Josi is active in North America, his father Peter Josi moves to the SCB board of directors.
We can also casually say: Mark Streit and Roman Josi (represented by his father) are now on the SCB board of directors. Both have earned so much fame and money in the NHL that they can meet Marc Lüthi at eye level or, in the case of Roman Josi, they can make calls. They both already have more than $ 20 million in their bank accounts and were able to pay the SCB shares of outgoing board members, to put it mildly, from the family budget, they can both do hockey and they are both dyed in Bernese wool.
But some controversies
It is the perfect solution. It arises, so to speak, from random observation. Recently, one of the board members said in a small circle that someone looking for new gentlemen said that one should ask Josi and the discussion. What is understood as a joke has now become reality.
And without being rude, we can say: Roman Josi and Mark Streit are now more important at SCB than new sports director Florence Schelling. Especially since both are also involved in the offspring through a newly founded GmbH. Or to put it politically correctly: Florence Schelling now has the ear of two hockey titans whose advice would have saved the work of her predecessor.
More about Florence Schelling:
To be a little controversial: Mark Streit and Roman Josi (mostly just on the phone) are the real sports bosses at SCB. Florence Schelling is responsible for implementing what her new hockey friends stimulate. That was, I apologize, a bit controversial.
Now everything has been done so that the SCB can return to being number 1 in the country in the medium term. The new SCB Board of Directors: Beat Brechbühl (President), Mark Streit, Peter Josi, Carlo Bommes (son of former President Fred Bommes), Pascal Dietrich and Marc Lüthi.
