Two days ago, French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced that the 2019/20 season of professional sports could not be resumed due to the Corona pandemic. On Thursday, the LFP football league association decided to end the championships in Ligue 1, as well as in the second and third leagues.
French Ligue 1 is the first of the top five European soccer leagues to be canceled. They originally wanted to start playing again from mid-June, which is no longer possible based on the latest government decisions.
PSG with ninth title
The members of the league association have decided to determine the final table based on the point average of the individual teams. Paris St-Germain is thus crowned champion. For the defending champion, it is the ninth championship title overall and the seventh since 2013. The last two ranked clubs Amiens and Toulouse have to start in Ligue 2. The newcomers are Lorient and Lens.
