The Grasshoppers lost some of their comfortable lead in round 27 of the Challenge League.
The overall lost Saturday night at home to the relegated Neuchâtel Xamax 1: 4. Louis Mafouta scored the first 3 goals in Letzigrund, one of them from a penalty. With 13 goals now, the Central African Republic striker is the second best scorer in the league. Only the Uruguayan from Schaffhausen, Rodrigo Pollero, scored one more goal. The Hoppers’ strike in the 90th minute was a classic goal of honor.
For a long time it seemed that FC Thun couldn’t use the Hoppers’ slip in the home game against Wil. But after a goalless first half, coach Carlos Bernegger’s team won 3-1. Before the last quarter of the championship, the difference between GC and Thun is only 4 points.
