It was hard to believe what was happening in Vernets-Halle on Saturday night in the game between Geneva-Servette and EHC Biel. The home team was 1-0 up until two and a half minutes before the end.
But then the ones from Zeeland appeared, and how! They scored no less than 5 goals in 112 seconds. The 0: 1 deficit turned into an acclaimed 5: 1 victory.
Beating Forster’s draw in the 58th minute was fuel for Biel’s final fireworks: without goalkeeper Joren van Pottelberghe, but with one more outfield player on the ice, the guests added just 12 seconds later – Yannick Rathgeb scored. The Geneva team was completely off the beaten track, they also managed 1: 3 for 23 seconds. Biel’s goals 4 and 5 were just an encore and the culmination of a historic ending.
This means that Biel maintains his chances of direct qualification to the playoffs. The next showdown will follow on Easter Monday when Biel travels to Zug. Guinevere, who has dropped to seventh place, has to wait for a slip from the Zenians.
Moy with double bad luck
The Genevans will be upset green and blue after the game. Most notably Tyler Moy, who missed the post twice just seconds before Forster’s groundbreaking draw.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Calvinstadt team had been controversial: Linus Omark had kicked the puck over the goal line. The referees decided a goal after a lengthy video consultation.
