US media reported Monday, citing court documents, that the indictment against Ghislaine Maxwell, 59, had been expanded to include a fourth victim (14 at the time of first contact). The complaints revolve around sex trafficking with minors in the years 2001 to 2004.
Maxwell was arrested in New Hampshire, United States, last July. In the case of three girls, she was charged, among other things, with seduction for illegal sexual acts and perjury between 1994 and 1997. Maxwell had denied help in court and pleaded “not guilty”. The now-deceased businessman Jeffrey Epstein is said to have abused dozens of minors and forced them into prostitution.
No bail
Maxwell has been in a prison in Brooklyn, New York, since last summer. Several requests for bail were denied, not least because of the risk of flight. He complained over and over again about the conditions of detention. The trial against him is due to begin in July.
Maxwell’s former partner, Epstein, escaped federal proceedings in 2008 by signing an agreement with the prosecutor. He then pleaded partially guilty and received a light prison sentence. In 2019 he was charged again in New York and shortly after, according to official information, he committed suicide in a prison cell.
Maxwell is also believed to have been involved in sexual abuse.
Maxwell is suspected of recruiting underage girls for Epstein who were later sexually abused by the investment banker. The now 59-year-old woman is said to have been involved in the abuse. (SDA / euc)
