Illegal party intensifies in St. Gallen

St. Gallen City Police broke up an illegal party Friday night. The party violated the rules of the crown. There were riots and property damage in downtown St. Gallen, said Dionys Widmer, a spokeswoman for the city of St. Gallen police.

The young people had called the illegal party through social networks. Initially, around 100 young people gathered outside the city center on the Drei Weieren hill. The young people celebrated with music and considerable amounts of alcohol.

The St. Gallen city police were able to break up this meeting quickly and without any problem, Widmer said. The party then moved to the city center, where young people gathered in Red Square.

Skirmishes with the police

According to Widmer, about 250 people are likely to have gathered there. As a result, there were skirmishes with the police that spread throughout the city center. There was property damage such as broken shop windows and acts of vandalism.

The St. Gallen city police announced early Saturday morning that the mood was growing aggressive. The police officers were insulted at the scene and stoned with bottles and stones. Later, the police used irritants and pellets.

Considerable property damage

Then the meeting broke up. Then smaller groups moved through downtown St. Gallen. This caused property damage of several 10,000 francs. Police officers have been contacted.

A policeman was slightly injured. He had to be treated in the hospital. A window was smashed in a police patrol car. Nine people were brought in for further clarification. Numerous people were turned away.
