In Switzerland there should be a uniform, internationally recognized vaccination certificate for the summer. The BAG declines any responsibility for the leakage of data on the vaccination platform meinimpfungen.ch. Meanwhile, the number of infections has risen again to more than 2,000 cases.
The meinimpfungen.ch platform should remain deactivated until security deficiencies are resolved, BAG director Anne Lévy told the media in Bern on Wednesday. Virginie Masserey, Head of BAG’s Infection Control Section, wants to leave the platform’s foundation council, “so that there is a clear separation between BAG and the foundation,” as she emphasized. The BAG also subsidizes the foundation.
It is still too early to assess whether FOPH will continue to work with the foundation, Lévy said. The foundation now has to do its homework first. The leaks are concerning and unacceptable. However, BAG does not assume any responsibility for data leakage.
On Tuesday it became known that the 450,000 vaccination data on meinimpfungen.ch, including 240,000 people vaccinated against Covid-19, could be tampered with. As a result, the BAG and the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (Edöb) became active. The platform was deactivated and a process was initiated against the operator.
The Foundation for Consumer Protection asked users to delete their data from the meinimpfungen.ch platform. The platform operators would have played any trust. Digitalswitzerland proposed a hackathon for a new solution.
The certificate should make travel easier
Meineimpfungen.ch has nothing to do with the vaccination certificate sought for the summer, Lévy emphasized. The purpose of the certificate is to facilitate travel. Additional privileges for vaccinated people would have to be discussed and politically decided.
At the moment, the vaccination record should only show the vaccine, but not the tests or a disease with the coronavirus. “We want to be able to issue an internationally recognized and forgery-proof vaccination certificate,” said Lévy. It does not want to wait for the EU.
According to Masserey, 36 percent of vulnerable people in Switzerland are now vaccinated against Covid-19. Development among the elderly is good. The number of hospitalizations and deaths is decreasing. That is a clear effect of vaccination.
The chair of the task force, Martin Ackermann, also praised this fact, but continued to urge caution. He advocated less speed when opening, but more speed when vaccinating: “Then we can enjoy the summer with more freedom.”
There are still many people in target group 1 who are not vaccinated. This number must first be increased significantly. “Until then, we still have to take care of our healthcare system.” The decline in hospitalizations and deaths among vaccinated older people would not yet prevent hospitals from becoming overloaded in the future.
Greece on quarantine list
On Wednesday, for the first time since January 27, the FOPH received more than 2,000 laboratory-confirmed coronavirus infections in Switzerland and Liechtenstein in 24 hours. In addition to the 2022 infections, the FOPH recorded 20 new deaths and 83 hospital admissions. On Wednesday a week ago, there were 1,858 new coronavirus infections, 16 new deaths and 72 hospital admissions.
On Wednesday there was a brake for everyone who wanted to spend the Easter holidays in Greece: as of April 5, anyone who returns to Switzerland from there must be in quarantine. The United States and Great Britain are no longer represented on the latest federal list.
According to the BAG, there are also advances with mass testing. Meanwhile, 22 cantons have submitted a concept for mass testing and two cantons are already doing well. In the future, repetitive tests should be possible free of charge in schools, companies and administrations.
