- A shooter killed 10 people, including a police officer, in the US state of Colorado on Monday afternoon.
- The location was a supermarket that is part of a shopping complex with several stores and cafes in the city of Boulder, northwest of Denver.
- A suspect has been arrested.
- Authorities have yet to release any information on why.
The police officer who died was one of the first officers at the scene and was shot, local police chief Maris Herold said Monday night (local time).
First, the police received reports of shots being fired and a suspicious person with a patrol rifle, Herold continued. The police entered with a massive contingent. The shopping complex was surrounded and heavily armed special forces were also deployed. Security forces called the suspect to surrender over the loudspeaker.

Eyewitnesses reported multiple shots and immobile people on the supermarket floor and in the parking lot. Video footage showed the police taking away a man with a bloody leg and a bare torso. It was not initially clear if this was the suspect.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said US President Joe Biden was informed of the incident and will remain informed.
Second big shooting in a week
In the United States, there are fatal incidents almost every day with guns that are easy to buy there. In its latest 2018 statistics, the CDC recorded a total of 39,740 firearm deaths in the US, about 109 deaths per day.
The Boulder incident is the second major “shooting” in the United States in a week. Last Tuesday, eight people were shot to death in a short period of time in three massage parlors in and around Atlanta, Georgia. Six of them were Asian and seven were women.
The bloody act had fueled debate in the United States about the growing discrimination and hostility of Americans of Asian descent.
