Vaccines will soon be possible in doctor’s offices and pharmacies

The canton of Aargau wants to promote repetitive tests and the vaccination campaign. In April, a first test will begin in eight doctor’s offices.

The experience should be used for detailed planning of the operation in almost 200 doctors’ offices and 70 pharmacies, as the Director of Health, Jean-Pierre Gallati (SVP) called it at a press point Monday. The start should take place in May, when there is enough vaccine.

In Aargau, a total of 65,134 people had received their first dose of vaccine as of Sunday. 33,967 people have already received the second vaccination. So far, infections have only occurred sporadically after the second vaccination, as noted by the cantonal Department of Health and Social Affairs (DGS).

The tests started in the schools

The pilot phase of repetitive tests in schools and healthcare centers began in early March. These tests will be extended to other institutions and companies from April.

So far, up to 2300 people have been tested per week, so far a total of 5000 people. The testing rate in the past three weeks was 70 percent in schools, 40 percent in nursing homes, and 50 percent in care facilities. In the case of repetitive tests, saliva tests are used, which are grouped in the participating institutions.

If a group tests positive, people are tested individually and isolation and quarantine measures are taken when necessary to stop the spread of the virus, he said.

According to the canton, there have been four positive groups so far. There was one student each in a group and two students with an infection outbreak in a class. Thanks to the test, an outbreak of infection at the school was likely averted, he said.

Aargau for the careful initial steps

In principle, the Governing Council supported the measures decided by the Federal Council. We welcome the decision to allow ten people to meet indoors in private areas, combined with the recommendation to get tested before such meetings.

The development of the epidemiological situation requires caution and moderation. What has been achieved so far should not be jeopardized prematurely.

The canton of Aargau asks the Federal Council to open the areas that are still closed, namely gastronomy, culture and sport, as soon as possible, from an epidemiological point of view, subject to strict protection concepts. Furthermore, face-to-face teaching should be possible again at universities.
