On Saturday night, the canton police announced their balance on the unauthorized rally: they reported around 600 people who wanted to demonstrate against Corona’s measures. Most are accused of violating the Cantonal Covid Ordinance. This was announced by the police of the canton of Bern at night.

A citizens’ initiative called for a demonstration in Bern and was therefore mainly mobilized in western Switzerland. There was no real rally. The police prevented large gatherings with a large contingent.

The allowed number of 15 people outdoors was clearly exceeded in three places, as discovered by the police: first at Helvetiaplatz in the Kirchenfeld district, then at Aare near Dalmazibrücke and later also on the station square near the canopy.

Police said they spoke to a total of 650 people at the three locations, checked them and turned them down. 600 were exhibited. 27 people were taken to the police premises for further clarification. All were released overnight.

A policeman wounded with a knife.

At the station, the environment under the canopy temporarily warmed up, police write. At this stage, the police wanted to control a protester who was apparently carrying a knife.

A fight broke out while the man was being searched and arrested, and the police officer was slightly injured in the hand by the knife. According to the police, the detained protester was taken to the hospital for control. Police did not comment on his possible injuries.

Bern City Security Director Reto Nause also spoke at the request that there was an increasingly heated atmosphere surrounding the Corona demonstrations in Bern. This affects both the participants of the demonstration and the other people who were in the city.

These should have been upset once again on Saturday by massive traffic obstructions, but also by protesters who defied the rules and ignored the mask requirement. This causes a lack of understanding in a large part of the population of Bern. (sda)
