She is only five years old. But terminally ill. Now the medical team will be stationed with little Pippa from Great Britain.
Pippa has been in a London hospital for about two years with severe brain damage. In January 2019, the girl fell ill. The flu caused severe brain damage called acute necrotizing encephalopathy.
Now Pippa’s mother, Paula Parfitt (41), has suffered another defeat in a British court in the fight for her daughter’s life.
Decision confirmed by a professional court
The London appeals court confirmed on Friday the High Court’s earlier decision that measures to prolong the girl’s life must be terminated.
Bad for mother: The court also held that “it was best for Pippa to end the life support measures,” the appellate judge wrote in a written ruling. Then the mother announced that she wanted to go to Britain’s highest court, the Supreme Court.
Mother: “I am devastated”
The Superior Court verdict in January said the case was “heartbreaking.” However, Pippa cannot perceive her surroundings or interactions with other people. Therefore, it is not advisable to move home with special equipment, as requested by the mother.
Pippa’s mother still doesn’t want to give up the lawsuit. “I am devastated again after the appellate court ruling,” she says. The little girl wants at least a trial phase in which her daughter can be cared for at home via mobile devices. She is convinced that Pippa is doing better at home than at the hospital. (SDA / nl)
