After landslide – No trains between Lausanne and Freiburg until Monday – News

• Following the Friday morning landslide at La Conversion (VD), the Bern-Freiburg-Lausanne railway line will remain suspended until operations begin on Monday morning.
• According to SBB, all trains on the route are canceled.
• When traveling from Geneva and Lausanne to Zurich, Bern, Basel and Lucerne, it is recommended to use the trains via Biel.

Travelers from Payerne (VD) and Freiburg will travel via Yverdon (VD) until Monday. Replacement buses run between Lausanne and Palézieux for regional transport.

The landslide occurred on Friday around 5:20 am between the Flonzel Viaduct and La Conversion train station in front of Lausanne on one of SBB’s main lines. About 150 cubic meters of earth covered the tracks, making them impassable.

Originally, SBB had announced the reopening of the route for Saturday lunch. But damage to the collapsed retaining wall has overturned this schedule, said SBB spokesman Frédéric Revaz of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

According to Revaz, the retaining wall collapsed to its full height and several meters wide. Only when the debris has been cleared can the causes of the collapse be analyzed in more detail. Securing the slope will begin Saturday night, Revaz said.
