The pandemic has brought more work to the Lucerne prosecutor’s office. In the case of the so-called “Crown crimes”, it was mainly violations of the mask requirement or credit fraud cases that were sanctioned.
(Many) The Lucerne Prosecutor’s Office has presented its annual statistics for 2020. A total of 1000 additional criminal charges were received in connection with the crown pandemic, the so-called “crown crimes”. Many of them concern violations of the mask requirement or bridge loan fraud. The total crime amounts to 9.8 million francs, 65 percent of fraud cases were closed at the end of 2020.
In addition, the prosecution recorded an increase in complex cases. Crimes against liberty and drugs, but also juvenile delinquency, increased compared to the previous year in 2019. Below the line, the total number of cases is lower than the previous year, so the Public Ministry was able to attend more cases than received.
