A 46-year-old driver who caused a traffic accident in front of the Bözberg tunnel in the canton of Aargau in 2019 with three deaths has been charged with multiple intentional killings. The man is said to receive a seven-year prison sentence.
The Brugg-Zurzach prosecutor’s office accuses the Montenegrin defendant of crashing his sports car into the back of a car that was moving slowly in a column due to construction works just before the Bözberg tunnel on the A3 towards Zurich. The driver of the accident drove at least 133 kilometers per hour.
Due to the force of the impact, the car was pushed into the back of a semi-trailer driving ahead and crushed, as announced by the Aargau prosecutor on Monday.
The prosecutor accuses the defendants of having accepted at least with approval the death of the occupants of the Renault. The victims of the serious traffic accident of November 27, 2019 were a 55-year-old woman and two men, 64 and 42 years old. At the crash site, it was initially unclear how many victims were in the crushed car.
Defendant: No recollection of the accident
The Public Ministry demands a prison sentence of seven years and an outpatient measure that accompanies the prison sentence for the treatment of the accused’s mental illness. He also requests an expulsion from the country for ten years.
The defendant affirmed that he did not remember either the route through the closed overtaking lane or the fatal accident, the prosecutor said in his statement.
The psychiatric report commissioned by the Prosecutor’s Office concluded that the man had reduced guilt due to mental illness at the time of the crime.
The man was arrested by the police shortly after the accident. After a preventive examination in the hospital, he was admitted to a psychiatric clinic. It has not yet been determined when the defendant will be held accountable in Brugg District Court.
