  • Gregor Deschwanden and Simon Ammann missed a top ranking on the big hill at the World Championships in Oberstdorf.
  • Dominik Peter remains in the first round in 33rd place.
  • Gold goes to Stefan Kraft, Robert Johansson (2nd) and Karl Geiger complete the podium.

It was not a Swiss day when he was jumping over the big hill at the Nordic World Championships in Oberstdorf. Gregor Deschwanden (124 and 126 meters) achieved 20th place as the best Swiss in persistent snowfall. Deschwanden said he actually had good wind conditions in the second round.

Simon Ammann (118 and 114.5 meters) was held back by unfortunate conditions on the second jump. Just as he left the takeoff table, the wind conditions drastically worsened. In the end, the result was a 26th place. “That was not smart of the jury,” he said later.

Dominik Peter missed 33rd in the first round because he was too late on the take-off table.

Gold to Austria

Even if he only made the third best jump in the second round, Austrian Stefan Kraft won the acclaimed world championship. He reached 132.5 in the first jump and 134 meters in the second.

Norwegian Robert Johansson and German Karl Geiger took silver and bronze. Bitter for the fourth Piotr Zyla: jumped further overall (130.5 and 137 meters), but it was not enough for a medal.
