In 2020, the show was one of the last events that could take place before the event was banned. This year, the Swiss Music Awards moderated by Nik Hartmann (48) took place for the first time in front of empty stands in the Hallenstadion Zurich due to the corona pandemic. The von Heimweh musicians, who received the award for best album of the year, were connected from the gasworks in Seewen SZ. Due to the conditions of the crown, the twelve-person formation was unable to follow the award ceremony together in one place. The best band was Gotthard, Patent Ochsner received the Outstanding Achievement Award for their services in the Swiss music industry.

Megawatt of the best newcomers
The rock band Megawatt was recognized as the best newcomer. The five members of the band followed the broadcast from the Jonnys Lion-Cave in Trübbach SG and were surprised by the award from their co-workers.
The production posed great challenges for television manufacturers. Only a few performers were allowed to be on site the night of the show, many performances were recorded in advance. Besides moderator Hartmann, there were also show acts like Pegasus and Zoe Wees (18) as well as some accolades, including comedian Lara Stoll (33).
