After the World Cup, it is before the ball fight: these are the chances of a Swiss victory in the World Cup discipline.
Switzerland has a small crystal ball for sure. The newly crowned world champion leads the Super-G Lara Gut-Behrami with a solid advantage of 195 points, only compatriot Corinne suter it could still intercept Ticino. For this, however, Suter would have to win the last 2 races of the season and Gut-Behrami would only have to score minimally twice.
It becomes more exciting in the fight for the other balls. The best thing is that the Swiss are involved in every decision.
Women: slalom, giant slalom and descent
Belong to the slalom Michelle Gisin (335) and Wendy holdener (245) to a quintet, which has divided the 15 podiums of the season so far. Petra Vlhova has the best cards as a leader, but she is only 40 and 65 points respectively ahead of world champions Katharina Liensberger and Mikaela Shiffrin. Swiss women lurk behind him. There are still 4 races left, the chances are intact.
In the “Riesen” there is much to say about the four-time winner of the season Marta Bassino. With just 2 runs to play, the Italian is ahead of Tessa Worley (FRA) with a 124-point cushion. Also lurking here Gisin, but it should score 148 points.
A special constellation emerges on the descent: Seasonal dominator Sofia Goggia is injured. The field now opens behind the Italian: Breezy Johnson (285) and Suter (270) are their first pursuers, but they must recover 195 and 210 points respectively over Goggia in the last 3 races.
Men: Downhill and Giant Slalom
With the Swiss we have Beat feuz Y Marco Odermatt the best cards in a small crystal ball. Feuz leads the Downhill World Cup after 6 of 9 races and has a “half win” ahead of Matthias Mayer. His double win at Kitzbühel also helped the Schangnauer. Dominik Paris is already 116 points behind.
A trio are still actively fighting for the ball between the giant specialists: Odermatt (400) is just behind Alexis Pinturault (440) and ahead of Filip Zubcic (368). Loïc Meillard 195 points behind with 4 outstanding races has only a slim chance.
Men: Slalom and Super-G
There are still 2 races left in both slalom and Super-G, and an Austrian is reasonably superior in both disciplines.
Marco Schwarz completed a tough January in slalom with 6 podiums (2 wins). Your advantage over the first pursuer Ramon Zenhäusern they are 146 apparently reassuring points.
Not so clear in Super-G: World champion Vincent Kriechmayr (AUT) leads 101 points ahead of compatriot Mayer, lurking just behind Mauro caviezel (116 points behind) and Odermatt (123) two Swiss.
Women and Men: General World Cup
It will also be exciting in the fight for the great crystal ball, at least for women: Vlhova (989) is only 41 points ahead as leader Gut-Behrami, also the third classified Gisin (807) still have opportunities. There are 5 outstanding sprints versus 6 tech races.
In the men’s category, Pinturault leads the competition with 225 points and more, and there are still 4 outstanding races in his favorite discipline of giant slalom. But there is also his first pursuer Odermatt have something to say. Meillard I’m probably too far behind as fifth with 362 points, but anything is possible in sport …
