The Ticino woman impresses with the fastest run in Cortina downhill training. Michelle Gisin and Jasmina Suter secure a starting place.
Even before the only (complete) women’s downhill training in Cortina, it was clear that two of the four Swiss World Cup starting spots had been taken: in addition to Vice World Champion Corinne Suter, Lara Gut-Behrami had also been taken. it had its place on the safe downhill.
And while Suter (11th) took it easy after a strong top section at the Olimpia delle Tofane below, Gut-Behrami set an exclamation point. The Ticino woman is also not known for going to the limit in training. However, aside from a small bump, it conjured up a clean and sparkling ride in the snow. And also the fastest time of the day.
Gut-Behrami had already convinced in the morning when the riders trained on a shortened route without the final part. Only the two Austrians Mirjam Puchner and Tamara Tippler were faster. In the afternoon they both lined up behind the Swiss.

For the other 4 Swiss women, the final training was on the other two starting places in the Swiss team. Michelle Gisin gave the best recommendation. In eighth position, the Engelberger lost 0.66 seconds on the best time of its partner and thus won the selection.
Jasmina Suter (15th), Jasmine Flury (16th), who missed a goal, and Priska Nufer (18th) qualified in the same region. The coaches finally gave Suter the last starting place.
In time for the biggest race of the year, starter Ilka Stuhec, who has yet to make the podium this season, appears to be getting back into shape. In the last two downhill races at Crans-Montana, the Slovenian had disappointed with 27th and 37th places. Training at Cortina, he lost almost half a second to Gut-Behrami and finished sixth.
