The World Cup is over for Mauro Caviezel

Mauro Caviezel will be leaving Cortina d’Ampezzo immediately after his (short) appearance at the Super-G World Cup. Swiss-Ski announced this on social media. «Mauro Caviezel will not start tomorrow Friday in downhill training. The 32-year-old has decided not to contest any more World Cup races, ”he says on Twitter.

This means that in Sunday’s downhill race, together with the seeded trio Beat Feuz, Carlo Janka and Marco Odermatt, Niels Hintermann from Zurich has the best cards for fourth place on the grid. Caviezel, who had suffered external ligament injuries and a concussion in his training crash at Garmisch, had returned to Cortina. Like many runners, he failed after the Vertigine jump. In a post-race interview, he said he was still suffering from the consequences of his injuries.
