Is Biden President? The QAnon conspirators are confused. But his ideas remain extremely dangerous, warns an American expert.
Joe Biden’s inauguration came as a shock to those in the United States who believe in the QAnon conspiracy theory. They were convinced that there would be a coup that would be resolved with the Democrats and that Donald Trump would remain in power.
But now reality has caught up with QAnon believers, and the confusion is spreading in chat rooms and social media.
Since Facebook, Instagram and Twitter blocked the accounts of QAnon followers, they have been communicating on other channels, such as the Russian chat platform Telegram.
This video was posted anonymously there on Wednesday. It says: How do you steal an election? A man comments from the beginning:
It starts with a virus. He imports it to America, keeps talking about it, calls the governors, shuts down the economy, organizes a mail-in vote, ignites the race war, nominates a candidate, locks him in the basement. Kidnap the polling stations, manipulate the votes and call the big techs like nothing.
The man belongs to the chat group “The Great Awakening” with more than 40,000 followers, where frustrated QAnon followers exchange ideas. “When Biden moved into the White House, the world went under for many QAnon supporters,” says digital forensic scientist and terrorism expert Jared Holt of the Atlantic Council.
Many were shaken in their faith after Biden’s inauguration. But tough QAnon supporters would further develop the story that Trump has already accomplished his task on the grand plan, or is still in control in the background.
“The most widespread idea is simply to postpone the deadline: March 4 is mentioned as the new date by which Democrats will be arrested and brought to justice,” says Holt. The theory circulates on Telegram that Biden is an actor and that his Oval Office is not real, but a television studio. Everything is possible: a phrase that you read and hear over and over again.
The danger of further acts of violence is very real the longer the Biden administration lasts.
The movement revolves around the anonymous character Q. He began spreading alleged information on the Internet in the fall of 2017. As a result, a ring of Democratic and liberal pedophiles would try to remove President Trump from office. This, however – according to Q – will reveal the “Cabal” in a great “storm” and with the support of the military.
On January 6, thousands of followers of the QAnon cult emerged from behind their screens and traveled to Washington to prevent Trump from being ousted from office. When they stormed the Capitol, they followed Q’s prophecy and Donald Trump’s call.
Trump’s entourage catches conspirators
“Trump is clearly responsible for the uprising,” Holt says. What kept extremist groups and Trump’s electorate present on January 6 were the lies that Trump and his allies told about democracy.
Trump has gone into hiding in Mar-A-Lago, Florida, but his entourage is active on new chat rooms, such as Gen. Michael Flynn, Trump’s former attorney Sydney Powell, who cannot find words for the alleged evil that go. Or Donald Trump Junior, who greets his followers on Telegram.
Digital forensic scientist Holt assumes that many extremist groups fear prosecution and would remain silent at this time. “But the danger of further acts of violence is very real the longer the Biden administration lasts.”
Because many of the violent groups had trusted Trump to carry out his plan. Now they may feel that it is up to them to do that.
