How much will the fine be? According to the Federal Council, anyone who violates measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus can be penalized with a fine of 50 to 200 francs.
By the way, it becomes more expensive if you violate the isolation and quarantine measures that have been ordered. According to the Epidemic Law, fines can be up to 5,000 Swiss francs for negligent behavior and up to 10,000 Swiss francs for malicious behavior.
Why can’t violations of crown regulations be punished with fines until now? Simply because they were not provided for in the law, that is, they were not stipulated. So far, the police have not been able to sanction people who violate Corona’s measures with an immediate fine. He only had the opportunity to start a complex criminal case. But in the case of minor infractions, this would hardly have been proportionate.
During the “extraordinary situation” proclaimed by the Federal Council last spring, the situation was different: this described a kind of state of emergency and gave the state authority more power and opportunities, and thus, among other things, the police temporarily the right to apply fines against crown sinners.
What should the buses do? The Federal Council justifies its decision with the fines to promote compliance with the measures and relieve the police authorities. In particular, the cantons have also called for fines to be made possible.
The buses must also make the population aware of the seriousness of the situation.
