A 39-year-old will be tried. It is said that she stole large sums of money and pretended to be a fake policewoman.

A 39-year-old woman has to answer to the Berne judiciary because she is said to have been involved in crimes committed by “fake policemen” in six cantons. She is accused of commercial fraud and money laundering.

This was announced on Tuesday by the Cantonal Prosecutor’s Office for economic crimes. The woman is said to have been involved in a total of 17 crimes in the cantons of Bern, Aargau, Baselland, Basel-Stadt, St. Gallen and Zurich. The amount of the infringement exceeds 225,000 francs.

The woman was caught red-handed in March 2020. According to authorities, she tried to collect cash from a victim. The woman has been detained ever since.

Clever stories of made-up lies

According to investigators’ findings, she is said to have collected the loot after the accomplices posed as police or prosecutors over the phone. They made the victims leave money and valuables in a certain place.

Presumably the calls were made from call centers in Turkey. The alleged perpetrators spoke German or Swiss German. They are said to have subjected victims to psychological and temporal pressure and to have revealed sophisticated lies.

The hearing before the Berne Commercial Court is scheduled for February 12, 2021.
