Corona’s officer, Nachman Asch, told the army broadcaster Tuesday that he was still checking to see if it was a new trend or individual cases. Israel has the highest birth rate in the Western world, with an average of three children per woman.
The Israel Gynecologists Association wrote on Tuesday: “Covid-19 disease can cause harm during pregnancy, trigger a more serious disease process in pregnant women and cause premature births – that’s why getting vaccinated is important.” Vaccination is recommended for all pregnant women who so wish, “especially if they are at risk of coming into contact with the virus or have previous illnesses that increase the risk of a severe course.”
Gili Regev-Jochai, head of the infectious diseases department at Shiba Hospital near Tel Aviv, made such a recommendation. It is “very clear that you should get vaccinated” before or during pregnancy. The corona vaccine is no more dangerous “than other vaccines that we give during pregnancy, for example the flu vaccine or the pertussis vaccination.”
In Germany, there is no recommendation from the Standing Commission on Vaccination (Stiko) of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) to vaccinate pregnant women because no study data are available specifically on the vaccination of this group.
With its rapid vaccination campaign, Israel is considered a pioneer. Almost 2.2 million people have already received the first dose and more than 423,000 the second dose. All people over 40 years of age and people in risk groups can now get vaccinated. At the same time, the country is experiencing an all-time high in new infections.
