January 6 changed the history of the United States forever. Countless people stormed the Capitol that day, shocking not only the country but the rest of the world as well. It was an attack on democracy and freedom of expression. A policeman was killed and an assailant shot dead by an officer. There were three other deaths on the brink of violence.
Donald Trump had previously warmed up his supporters. Because it was also the day voters finally named Joe Biden as the new president of the United States. Trump said among other things: “If you don’t fight like hell, you will have no more land.” He also urged them to “get rid of the weak people in Congress” and said, “Let’s march down Pennsylvania Avenue,” the street that leads to the Capitol.
Another spiel on January 20?
For virtually all observers, this speech was the trigger for the assault on the Capitol. And now Trump is planning another great show in front of his supporters. When he and his family leave the White House for good on January 20, he would like to do so with the highest honor, “CNN” reports. Consequently, Trump expects a “great show with many fans.” Only he knows what he will tell them.
After all: Apparently, Trump’s team is considering whether the celebration should take place at the White House or at the Florida airport. Trump plans to travel there on January 20. A direct confrontation with political opponents at the airport could probably be avoided.
Because the inauguration of the new US president Joe Biden (78) and his vice president Kamala Harris (56) will take place on the same day. The ceremony is scheduled on the western front of the Capitol. Trump has already announced that he will not participate in the celebration. He is the first president since 1869 to lose the investiture of his successor. (vof)
