Lucerne ski areas can resume operations on Friday, under strict conditions
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Lucerne ski areas had to cease operations from December 22, 2020. They can now partially reopen as of Friday. However, this permission is subject to strict conditions and can be revoked.
(stg) According to the resolution of the Department of Health and Social (GSD), which took place after a discussion in the governing council, the chair lifts and chair lifts, as well as the ski slopes in the canton of Lucerne, can reopen on Friday, January 8 2021. The canton of Lucerne announced this on Wednesday afternoon. Railways serving a development function in the sense of public transport were already open in advance, and walking trails and cross-country ski trails are still available to the population. The GSD decided to open the Lucerne ski areas subject to the following conditions:
- Between January 8 and February 7, 2021, the Lucerne ski areas are only open between Thursday morning and Sunday evening.
- There is a general capacity restriction for guests, which is 66 percent (the value is based on the number of guests on peak days).
- Toboggan runs, snow parks and other snow sports facilities created by mountain rail operators will be closed until further notice to keep the risk of injury and associated risk of hospitalization low.
- For accident prevention reasons, the individual sections of the slopes will not be open at the moment (especially the black slopes).
- It is not possible to consume it in restaurants, but there are offers to go. In addition, there is a ban on alcohol.
- Ski area employees who are in direct contact with the customer should undergo a weekly corona test. Testing employees is a matter for the operators of the winter sports areas.
The social and health director, Guido Graf, can be cited in the communication as follows:
“These strict conditions are necessary for the resumption of winter sports operations in the canton of Lucerne to be responsible. Because: The epidemiological situation continues to be serious and hospital utilization and staff workload remain high. ”
However, since the situation is stable, we are currently reverting to orange instead of red in the cantonal alarm concept and the replay value has dropped slightly, the ski areas could be partially open. Furthermore, according to Graf, the governing council takes the big picture into account in all its decisions:
“The measures are as strict as necessary to limit the risk of infection and death and as moderate as possible to allow for social and economic life even in times of pandemic.”
He calls on winter sports enthusiasts to be defensive on the slopes to keep hospitalization figures low. “It is equally important to keep your distance and wear a protective mask when queuing and other people gather,” says the health director. The necessary precautions have been taken by winter sports companies and protection concepts have been approved and have since been submitted and reviewed to the department of health and sports.
The additional procedure will be determined in week three of the calendar.
The epidemiological situation is continuously analyzed and it is possible to withdraw the license at any time, depending on the evolution. In a new meeting between the cantonal authorities and the representatives of the ski areas in the third week of the calendar, the next steps will be discussed, taking into account the epidemiological situation and the use of the hospital’s capacities. Director of Health and Social Guido Graf:
“Our goal is to create the best possible starting point for the upcoming carnival parties.”
