Bad news for Dimitrij Küttel! The Swiss handball star has cancer, as his club Kadetten Schaffhausen announced Tuesday morning. Shortly before Christmas, the 26-year-old suffered symptoms of the disease and was thoroughly examined. The devastating diagnosis: lymph node cancer!
Chemotherapy should be started as soon as possible. Cadet team doctor Dr. Jean-Jacques Fasnacht has a supporting effect. The people of Schaffhausen write: “We will give all our support to Dimitrij during this difficult time so that he can overcome the illness and soon put on his cadet shirt again. At the moment there are still various investigations on the therapy. Therefore, neither the club nor the players can provide more information on the state of health.
Küttel is one of the leading figures in Swiss handball. In the national team he is one of the big names, where he scored 136 goals in 62 games. Together with Nicolas Raemy, he formed our duo in the right-back space at the European Championships in Sweden a year ago. Given that lefties of his stature and throwing power are rare, Küttel is one of the central and hardly replaceable pieces of the puzzle in Nati coach Michael Suter’s plans.
It is even more important with the cadets: the native of Aargau moved to the Rhine Falls when he was young, where he trained at the youth academy. In the 2013/14 season, Küttel made his debut in the first team, with which he celebrated the championship title every year except 2018. In 2017 he was even promoted to captain. A trade that the always positive, thoroughbred handball player has proudly performed and that we hope to do again in the future. (leo / cmü)
