A district school nurse in the city of Zurich featured the corona pandemic on Twitter as a necessary cleanup, killing the elderly and sick. There is no room in the party for such thoughts, says FDP President Severin Pflüger.
Politicians have fallen into the same trap over and over since the short message service Twitter was launched. You get carried away to make a statement and you are faced with a shit storm that cannot be tamed even with subsequent apology letters. Sooner or later the case becomes public, the party leadership becomes focused and has to show its colors, and in the end the politician or, less often, the politician has to resign from the position for which he has been elected.
The Corpus Delicti in this case is a tweet that a member of a Zurich district school authority hid on Saturday. The world has “too many overweight people, too many sick people, too many people with weak immune systems, too many very old people,” he wrote. Crown clean it now. “Is it really that bad and do we have to feed them all ‘healthy’ and keep them alive?”
The problem is not the question
Severin Pflüger, president of the Zurich FDP, says the problem is not that his party colleague is grappling with the issue of proportionality of measures and the number of deaths per crown. Rather, the problem is your illegitimate answer to this question. «The weak, the sick, the overweight, all the people who do not fit into a norm, have therefore lost their right to life – Corona as a eugenic program. Something like this is not compatible with the ideas of the FDP and has no place in our party ”. And that’s not something that can be made up for with an apology.
He reported this to the politician on Sunday morning. Psychologically, he was not doing well and massive criticism on Twitter attacked him. He explained his tweet with the fact that after months of taking further measurements, the necklace had broken. The politician was not available for NZZ to comment. He deleted his Twitter account. Before that, he had apologized saying that everyone had become a bit fragile and aggressive over time.
Severin Pflüger says the party determined the procedure Sunday morning, even before the media found out about the matter. The FDP asks the man to resign his position and resign from the party. Pflüger assumes that it will comply with this demand. Otherwise, there is an exclusion procedure according to the statutes, for which the organs of the district party would be responsible.
A former member of SVP
It is interesting that the tweeter was a member of the SVP until two years ago. He was passed to the Liberals as an elected school janitor. “At the time, he plausibly explained to us that he no longer felt at home at SVP, that he was too conservative for him and not open to the world,” says Pflüger. There was no reason to doubt it. It could not be known that the man was a “eugenicist in disguise”.
In general, more polar parties have problems with exponents who get into trouble on Twitter or Facebook with questionable comments. The case is known of a caretaker of an SVP school who wrote about a new possibly necessary “Kristallnacht” in connection with the mosques and who was later excluded from the party. Regarding Corona, the Greens recently excluded their cantonal councilor Urs Hans from the party because he had circulated conspiracy theories about the pandemic. Pflüger says he is not aware of any comparable cases in his party. Generally, freedom with its liberal ideas is not an attraction for people with extreme positions.
