The canton of Zurich police had to break up an unauthorized party with more than 100 guests in Volketswil (ZH) on New Year’s Eve. Indications had been received that the party would be held on an empty commercial property.
The illegal event broke up shortly after midnight, police said. About 25 teens and young adults were screened and reported for ignoring the Corona regulation. Private gatherings of more than ten people are currently prohibited.
In the city of Zurich, several people attacked officers during a police check in Linth-Escher-Gasse. Nine people were arrested. Several people between the ages of 16 and 24 are accused of violence and threats against officials and other criminal offenses.
There were also a relatively large number of people at Zurich’s main station on New Year’s Eve, including many who were drunk. The canton police had to evict about 15 people and detain several temporarily.
Rave party in Villeneuve dissolved
In Villeneuve (VD), the police of the canton of Vaud had to break up an illegal “rave party” with a large contingent. Between 200 and 300 people had gathered in the old “FunPlanet” industrial building. The party had broken up and the 29-year-old organizer had to wait for a complaint, police said.
The business premises, which caught fire in 2009, are in danger of collapsing, and gasoline generators were also used in a closed room, so the building had to be evacuated. After the mission, the party guests were taken to Lausanne on a train chartered especially for the event. More than 100 police officers were deployed.
Due to the pandemic, fewer people were on the streets of the city of Basel than in previous years. In Aeschenvorstadt, the cantonal police broke up a small party attended by twelve people.
Fireworks against policemen
In the center of Biel / Bienne, several fireworks were shot down in the direction of police officers, as a spokesman for the Bern cantonal police told the Keystone-SDA agency. But no one was injured. Several people were checked.
There were also problems due to riots, disputes and fireworks on New Year’s Eve, which was overshadowed by the pandemic. The police force had less to do than in other years. The police registered about 100 emergency calls in Basel, about 70 in Bern and about 60 in Zurich.
In Lucerne there were about 150 people on the pier at midnight who, according to the police, were complying with Corona regulations everywhere. According to city police, “only” about 150 people were present at St. Gallen’s Klosterplatz, where thousands of people often toast the New Year.
