The report of the kitchen fire on Bremgarterstrasse in Wohlen reached the emergency number on Friday evening, shortly after 7:30 p.m. When the first emergency services from the Wohlen Fire Department arrived, smoke penetrated from the second floor. No flames were observed. All the residents were outside the building and were not damaged, the Aargau canton police write in a report.
However, the operation turned out to be expensive: when the fire department reviewed the property in question, several smoldering fires were discovered on the middle floors of the first and second floors. For this reason, the fire department had to break down and cool several intermediate floors and walls in the apartment building to prevent the burning fire from spreading further. The building suffered material damage worth tens of thousands of francs.
Flames in the steam vent
The canton police have started their investigations. Based on initial findings, a 28-year-old resident of the property likely heated oil in a frying pan in the morning, which subsequently caught fire. The resident noticed the fire from the smoke and tried to put out the burning oil with water.
Due to the deflagration, flames have likely entered the steam vent, causing several smoldering fires throughout the day, the message continues.
The Wohlen fire brigade and the Wohlen regional police patrols and the cantonal police were in action.
