British ski tourists demand compensation from Switzerland for quarantine
As soon as they arrived in Switzerland, thousands of British ski tourists had to be quarantined due to the mutated corona virus. Many then disappeared in an action of night and fog. The rest stayed in vacation apartments and inns. Many of them in the British stronghold of Verbier VS.
A “pleasure” to be trapped in a hotel room overlooking the Alps and room service was out of the question. This is what the British, who feel cheated, tell the Telegraph newspaper.
Compensation demanded
Pay significantly higher prices because of the holidays. And then all of a sudden you have to quarantine for ten days and postpone your flights. “I understand that the situation has changed, but the Swiss authorities should offer us compensation.” Because the measurements were taken retrospectively.
A family man who has been on a ski vacation to Switzerland over and over again since 1972 is fed up. It won’t come back like this. Due to the obligation of quarantine, all the Christmas holidays fell into the water. The quarantine was “torture”, but he was “a law abiding citizen” and adhered to Swiss rules. But with three children between the ages of 10 and 15 in a small room and unable to receive any food other than breakfast, this situation soon became “untenable”.

Geoff Heath-Taylor informs the newspaper that he was able to leave the hotel on Boxing Day after the quarantine ended. “Even then, the staff yelled at me to go back to my room.”
Last week, the Englishman described his situation to John Watson: “I have decided to accept the situation. But I envy people who can now go skiing. I watch them from my window as they head to the ski lift. “
Overzealous policeman
The owner of a British chalet said police knocked on his door on December 22 to see if his family was in quarantine. This despite the fact that his quarantine had already ended and the canton had officially confirmed it. Officials later admitted that they “had not even looked at” the documents. The uniformed men were too enthusiastic, says the Briton, but “they were not competent to control what was happening.”
