The President of the United States praises the “truly historic victories” under his leadership. It doesn’t address America’s many problems or the lost elections.

The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, praised the achievements of the country under his leadership before the turn of the year. “Truly historic victories” have been achieved and the United States should be remembered for what it has accomplished, Trump said in a video message posted Thursday. In particular, he praised the rapid production of coronavirus vaccines and thanked scientists, doctors and the military. Vaccines would end the pandemic once and for all, Trump said.

The president went on to say that the country had faced the corona pandemic “dramatically better” economically than experts had predicted. “No one can keep up with us” in terms of the less severe recession and the rapid rebound, Trump said. “Whenever America is challenged, we always rise to the occasion.”

Unemployment benefits for 19.6 million people

Since the start of the global corona pandemic, nearly 20 million infections with the Sars-CoV-2 pathogen have been detected in the US, and more than 340,000 deaths are related to the virus.

Trump did not speak about the dramatic proportions of the pandemic, which continues to affect the US economy. Within a week, hundreds of thousands of Americans reapplied for unemployment benefits, and according to the latest figures, about 19.6 million people in the United States receive some form of unemployment benefit. A year earlier it was only around 1.8 million.

Trump also did not mention the presidential election in his message. He came out of it as a loser, but does not recognize the victory of his Democratic challenger Joe Biden. Trump sees himself cheated by the victory, so he has not presented evidence. Biden’s inauguration is scheduled for January 20.
