The 15 most curious police reports of 2020
A year that begins with a shortage of toilet paper can only be a curious year. However, in addition to all the extraordinary experiences, everyday madness also came to Switzerland. These 15 police reports prove it.
Police reports are probably one of the most underrated cultural assets in Switzerland. Because, like a bestseller list, each year they contain the funniest and most curious anecdotes and stories. Also this year our friend and helper provided us with enough material. That’s why we present: The 15 Most Curious and Sometimes Hilarious Police Reports of 2020.
The red-orange corridor
Winterthur city center is known for its many speed cameras. Even foxes are no longer safe from expensive snapshots. A city fox wanted to walk around the city early on December 1. In fact, it ignored a red light and was quickly turned on. Who will find the fox?
The excursion was without consequences. Police resigned from a position in the absence of strong evidence to prove the fox’s identity.
The impossible to teach
Car theft is without a doubt one of the worst sins of youth. What this 19-year-old Obwalden managed to do with four colleagues goes even further. The five youths stole a car in Hinwil on August 17. In an odyssey, they finally have an accident on the Höhenstrasse and fall down a two-meter high embankment.
Two of the passengers are injured. The group then tried to escape by car, but was badly damaged. So they quickly stole another car and took it to the hospital in Wetzikon. During the course of Sunday, all those involved were finally arrested.
The tank crackers (unsuccessful)
A gang of anti-tank crackers attacked the canton of Aargau in the summer. Several strangers tried three times, without success, to blow up an ATM with a gas bottle. To do this, they would have put gas into the machine through a hose and then turned it on with a fuse.
The machines caught fire, after which the perpetrators fled. They couldn’t steal money. The police were also able to take the following snapshots:
A simple mask, as it has been used in public spaces in Switzerland since the pandemic, would likely have been less noticeable and would have offered better protection against discovery.
The brave hiker by car
What does the man not do to please the woman? This 22-year-old Italian really just wanted to take his 20-year-old partner home. “I know an abbreviation for this,” he must have thought. He eventually got stuck on a hiking trail near Winterthur-Wülflingen and had to ask the police for help. Police do not know if it was enough for a second date.
Young Banksy
You make a million staining walls in London. And what does this seven-year-old Aargauer get for the same action? Just stress. He sprayed several cars and facades in Waltenschwil in September. However, because you are under criminal responsibility, you cannot be held criminally liable. He was left with the sermon of the police and the parents.
Here are two selected works by the young and aspiring street artist from Waltenschwil:
The coffee connoisseur
This Slovakian trucker had a coffee machine on the dash, but did not have a valid driver’s license. Some employees saw him at the heavy traffic control center. The coffee machine blocked the driver’s view. The 45-year-old Slovakian was denounced and was not allowed to continue.
The trotti runner
Electric scooters are a curse and a blessing. For some late commuters they are the last resort for punctuality, other passersby just bother about them. But the scooters available on the market accelerate to 20 km / h. Not so with this Vaudois device.
He had done so much on his e-scooter that he stumbled into a speed trap at 57 km / h. Police were able to identify him a few days later because he was already back on his monster scooter.
The Pumpkin Bomber
They are only seen reluctantly at train stations and airports – abandoned suitcases. The railway line between Baden and Otelfingen had to be interrupted for about 30 minutes on 10 October due to a chained suitcase.
However, the alleged perpetrator returned shortly after the start of the police operation to collect his suitcase. He had not been able to transport it on his bicycle and therefore had left him behind. “Not the best idea,” as the police said. There was no bomb in the suitcase, just a pumpkin.
The golden boy or the golden lady
Who has not left something on the train? In very stupid cases, however, the bag left behind contains not only a laptop or cell phone, but also several gold bars worth around 182,000 francs. So far, the police have tried unsuccessfully to identify the owner of the gold bars. The person still has a little over four years to collect the treasure from the Lucerne police.
Sunday firefighter
In fact, you can meet Sunday drivers any day of the week. However, what is new is that they not only lurk in the street, but also in bodies of water. Zurich city police reported on July 29 that a man had been arrested in Upper Latvian.
He had previously stolen a boat on Lake Zurich and finally drove it leisurely along the Limmat. When he got to the pool, he jumped out of the boat and let it float through the pool without a guide. The lifeguard pulled Sunday’s firefighter out of the water and held him prisoner until police arrived. A bather was able to control the boat without a driver. The man was reported.
The meat tiger
What this young man needed around 600 kilograms of meat products is a mystery to the Federal Customs Administration (EZV). He had bought it in Germany and imported it to Switzerland without paying for it. The FCA announced that there are now additional costs of around 10,000 francs waiting for the driver. Load:
Speed chamber fan
We start this story with a small survey:
This Valais chose the latter. Police were able to arrest the 21-year-old shortly after and immediately revoked his driver’s license.
The police, your friend and bank robber
Two fully equipped police officers break into a bank and rob it. What seems like the beginning of a joke happened in Sevelen in September. The two men broke into a St. Gallen cantonal bank shortly before 9 am and robbed it. They had dressed like this:
“The thieves proceeded very professionally and with great effort,” said police spokesman Hanspeter Krüsi when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency. The perpetrators have not yet been identified.
The browdy tunnel
The Gotthard Tunnel is the north-south traffic axis for road traffic. However, so far only one lane leads north and one lane leads south. The two lanes are separated by a double safety line, overtaking is strictly prohibited.
Apparently, that did not interest an Italian in September. He passed another passenger car on the road under the mountain four times. Later, he was traveling at excessive speed in the Seelisberg tunnel and was detained by the police. He had to leave several thousand francs as security.
The pull
This delivery van should only have carried 3,500 kilograms of material. However, the 46-year-old Briton had carried around 6,200 kilograms. How did the Lucerne police notice this? So:
