“Work is more important to him than enjoyment”: Seven colleagues characterize the resigned mayor of St. Gallen, Thomas Scheitlin

Military fanatic, skillful meeting facilitator, reliable colleague in an emergency when the ground shakes in St. Gallen – Mayor Thomas Scheitlin will retire later this year. A man with many facets, as can be seen in a conversation with his colleagues.

Former Councilor Fredy Brunner: “His appearance in front of the media after the Sittertobel earthquake is my personal Thomas Scheitlin moment”

Fredy Brunner: The earthquake of July 20, 2013 in Sittertobel was a key experience for me. I was in Italy on vacation, I woke up at 4 in the morning feeling uncomfortable and decided to go home immediately. Ready to start in the town square, Marco Huwiler answered the phone and informed me about the earthquake. I thought: OMG, now someone has to defend my geothermal project. I called Scheitlin and said, “Thomas, I’m not coming back in time, now you have to stay there. It’s doubly important.”
