The mountain railways of the Flims / Laax / Falera ski area want to offer trials for all guests in the future.
When it comes to crown testing, the cantons are often in firm control. You decide who, where and how the test is done. This is different in the Flims region. Mountain railways want to make comprehensive testing possible there. They have already had their first experiences in recent days.
Two positive test results
Employees were tested first. Mountain railways have conducted more than 500 tests in recent weeks. There were no positive results, he said in a message.
Shortly before Christmas, the mountain railways extended their test campaign and had 1,900 residents, but also guests in the communities of Flims, Laax and Falera, took a test. Two tests were positive.
We want rapid tests to be available to guests this week or next.
Now the Weisse Arena Gruppe, the Flims / Laax mountain railway company, wants to go one step further. Everyone should be tested on the mountain train. Everything is ready now, says Weisse Arena Gruppe CEO Markus Wolf: “We want rapid tests to be available to guests this week or next.”
Cost of about half a million
An unconventional test variant is used in Flims. A simple sample of saliva is sufficient for this. The test is almost as reliable as a conventional PCR test, says Markus Wolf. There is little clarity on costs. These depended on the number of tests performed, according to Wolf. He estimates that the entire test campaign in the region will consume half a million francs by the end of winter.
The canton of Graubünden is in contact with the organizers of this test campaign. “We are very interested,” says Martin Bühler from the Graubünden management team and is watching this test campaign very closely. The canton welcomes this private testing initiative.
We welcome any initiative that helps us fight the pandemic.
Basically, it is important that tests are carried out, whether they are ordered by the authorities or by private interest, Bühler continues.
