- On Wednesday morning, two alleged perpetrators tried to rob an ATM in Rüschlikon (ZH).
- The two men managed to escape first.
- Soon after, the police arrested one of the men. He’s looking for the second suspect.
The ATM on Zürcherstrasse in Rüschlikon set off an alarm shortly after 2.30am on Wednesday morning. Police officers from the cantonal police arrived at the scene a little later. “The police patrol came across two men who were about to get into a car,” says Ralph Hirt, media spokesman for the Zurich cantonal police.
“During the arrest, the police used a firearm,” Hirt said. However, the two alleged perpetrators were able to escape in the car. Only a few minutes later, the vehicle was found again in Rüschlikon.
During the arrest, the police used firearms.
One of the two men was still standing next to the car, as Ralph Hirt says: “The police went to the perpetrator and found that he had a gunshot wound to the leg.” The police provided emergency help immediately. An ambulance took the 36-year-old man to hospital. The second man is fleeting. “Our search is in full swing,” Ralph Hirt said.

In recent times, ATMs have been looted time and again in Switzerland. On December 23, two men blew up an ATM at the Killwangen-Spreitenbach train station in the canton of Aargau. In autumn, criminals attacked several ATMs in the cantons of Bern, Grisons and Aargau within a week.
It is currently unclear whether the attempt at Rüschlikon is a repeat offender. “Of course, we get a lot of leads in the morning,” says Ralph Hirt of the Zurich canton police. These traces would now be evaluated. “Only then can it be said whether the current attempt can be added to the robberies that have already occurred.”
