A book full of postcards from around 1900 speaks of the need to tell everyone where you are, for example, at the scene of an accident.

It’s a very special kind of picture book: it contains a postcard of each Zurich municipality and each Zurich and Winterthur city neighborhood from the period between 1890 and 1930, including entertaining descriptions. So that you can wander around the whole canton and through time while sitting in the warm room, as one is advised these days. “I want to write it on a thousand cards” is the name of the book that the Zurich Antiquities Society is publishing as its 185th New Year’s article.

The postcards come from the Roland Böhmer collection, which includes more than 5,000 postcards with themes from the canton of Zurich from the beginning of the last century. This selection alone clearly demonstrates how inexhaustible postcards from historical sources are today.
