Russian authorities have asked Kremlin critic Alexej Navalny to return from Germany. Navalny violated the parole requirements of a 2014 sentence, the FSIN prison authority announced Monday.

Referring to a report in “The Lancet” magazine, Navalny was said to have been discharged from the hospital on September 20 and had had no symptoms since October 12. Navalny posted a letter to his lawyer on Twitter that he had to report to an office in Moscow at 9am on Tuesday (local time). A Navalny spokeswoman said it was impossible. Furthermore, the opposition continues to suffer the consequences of its poisoning. The FSIN acts at the behest of the Russian government.

Navalny collapsed on a domestic flight on August 20 and was airlifted for treatment at the Berlin Charité after receiving initial treatment in Russia. According to the federal government, he was poisoned with a neurotoxin from the Novitschok group, which developed during the Soviet era. (Read about this: The poison was in his boxers).

Navalny accuses Russian President Vladimir Putin of being the mastermind behind the attack. The Moscow government has denied its involvement and has said Putin is part of a US-backed plot to discredit him.
