Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-partner remains in jail. With Ghislaine Maxwell, who wanted to post a $ 28.5 million bond for a pretrial release, there is still a “flight risk,” New York Judge Alison Nathan decided Monday. Nathan had already denied two similar requests from Maxwell in July and August: release on bail and removal from solitary confinement.
Maxwell, 59, was arrested in the US state of New Hampshire in early July. She is charged with six counts, including seducing minors into illegal sexual acts and perjury. The charges related to the years 1994 to 1997 carry a maximum penalty of five to ten years in prison. However, Maxwell had denied having been an accessory in court in mid-July and had pleaded “not guilty.”
Her ex-partner Jeffrey Epstein allegedly abused dozens of minors and forced them into prostitution. In 2008, he avoided federal procedures on this matter by signing an agreement with the Public Ministry. Epstein later pleaded partially guilty and received a light prison sentence. He was charged again in New York in 2019 and, according to official reports, shortly after committed suicide in a prison cell. (sda / dpa)
