Bad news for Swiss tennis fans: Roger Federer’s knee has yet to fully recover. Therefore, the 39-year-old does not participate in the Australian Open.
As Roger Federer’s manager Tony Godsick announced on Sunday, Federer has made “great progress” with his knee. But it is not enough to participate in Melbourne.
“Roger has decided not to play the Australian Open in 2021. He has made great strides in his knee and his physical condition in recent months,” Godsick said. “However, after consulting with his team, he decided that the best long-term decision would be to return to competitive tennis after the Australian Open.”
Federer fans will probably have to wait two months for the return of Switzerland. “I will start the talks next week for the tournaments that start in late February,” Godsick continued.
