The variant of the coronavirus that appeared in Britain has also been detected in Switzerland for the first time. The mutation in question was discovered in two samples from people who tested positive, as the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) announced on Thursday.

These affected individuals reside in the UK and have tested positive for the coronavirus in Switzerland. The samples were sequenced at the National Reference Center for Emerging Viral Diseases in Geneva.

The STOCK MARKET says that people are known by name. The cantons where these samples come from were informed by the FOPH that this more contagious variant could possibly circulate among them. The BAG did not reveal which cantons are involved.

Based on its own information, the BAG assumes that people who tested positive are isolated. One canton has already confirmed this for one of the two people. Your contact persons are under quarantine. A second canton is currently in the process of contacting the person concerned, writes the BAG.

After new variants of the coronavirus became known in Great Britain and South Africa, Switzerland took steps to find any mutation in the virus. Several samples are currently being sequenced from people who tested positive for a possible mutation in the virus. This is to determine if a person who tested positive is a carrier of the new variant.

On Wednesday, BAG informed British and South African guests in Switzerland about the crown rules that apply to them in an SMS message. In the message, contacted people were informed that all travelers from Great Britain or South Africa who arrived in Switzerland on or after December 14, 2020, must be quarantined for ten days from the date of arrival.
