Thayngen SH: 23-year-old smuggled hundreds of kilos of meat and was discovered
Employees of the Federal Customs Administration (EZV) searched a vehicle in Thayngen last weekend. In doing so, they found large quantities of meat products and sausages without paying tax.
The customs authorities detained a 23-year-old Swiss who had previously entered Switzerland from Germany through an unoccupied border crossing. During the inspection of the vehicle registered in the canton of Zurich, they found 405 kilograms of smoked meat and 207 kilograms of sausages.
Goods imported into Switzerland were unpaid. A license from the Federal Office of Agriculture (FOAG) was also not required to import more than 20 kilograms of meat. The meat was confiscated and sent to the responsible cantonal laboratory.
The driver of the car was questioned by customs officials. You should expect about 10,000 francs of additional costs. The defendant also has to face a fine of several thousand francs, as announced by the FCA. After completing the paperwork, he was released again. (aeg)
