Rot-Weiss Essen (4th) – Fortuna Düsseldorf (2nd) 3-2
A Swiss leads Essen to another surprise in the German Cup: Marco Kehl-Gomez! The 28-year-old is a former overall junior and has been under contract with German clubs since 2013. Kehl-Gómez orchestrates the fourth division team not only as the captain of success, but also hits the head in the 39th minute to put the 2-1.
Last September, Essen eliminated Bielefeld from the Bundesliga (1-0). Now Düsseldorf, which is two classes higher, has to believe it in the North Rhine-Westphalia duel. Fortuna is at least fifth in the 2nd Bundesliga. Thanks to the 3-2 victory, Essen has reached the second round of the cup for the first time in 13 years. The team surrounding Kehl-Gomez currently leads the Western Regional League undefeated. Essen is also picking up speed in the cup, as well as in the previous victory march in the league.
The objectives: 15. Engelmann 1: 0, 36. Hennings 1: 1, 39. Kehl-Gomez 2: 1, 70. Kefkir 3: 1, 87. Hennings (Pen.) 3: 2.
VfL Wolfsburg – SV Sandhausen (2nd) 4-0
Renato Steffen was on the field until the 69th minute in the Wolves’ convincing second round victory. Nati defender Kevin Mbabu is not injured. Already at halftime it seems that the match is decided with a score of 3-0. When forward Wout Weghorst scored her second goal of the night at Naschspielzeit (91st), it was definitely long.
The objectives: 27. Gerhardt 1: 0, 29. Weghorst 2: 0, 41. Joao Victor 3: 0, 91. Weghorst 4: 0.
Hannover 96 (2nd) – Werder Bremen 0-3
Many experts prophesied a difficult course for the Bundesliga club Bremen towards Hannover. But the teachers of Florian Kohfeldt’s team easily overcome 96 obstacles. A victory that is never in danger for Werder.
The objectives: 29. Gebre Selassie 0: 1, 32. Sargent 0: 2, 60. Mbom 0: 3.
VfB Stuttgart – SC Freiburg 1-0
Badisches Derby in the second round of the cup, with a better finish for Stuttgart. Torgarant Kalajdzic receives the golden blow. Demirovic, a former FCSG star, who enters in the 55th minute, cannot change anything at the Freiburg-Out. Stuttgart regular goalkeeper Gregor Kobel is saved for this game.
The door: 15. Kalajdzic 1: 0.
1. FSV Mainz 05 – VfL Bochum (2nd) 2: 5 nP
Bitter afternoon for first-class Mainz. With the Rhenish, the penalty shootout goes bad in the pants. The first three shooters miss or see their shot rejected, in the second division club Bochum everyone scores. The lottery ends quickly. Lower-class VfL shows morale in Mainz. After an hour, the Ruhr-area club is still 0-2 behind, but still tied and has to act outnumbered from minute 5 of extra time. But the cup makes everything possible …
The objectives: 7. Boethius 1: 0, 55. Latza 2: 0, 66. Holtmann 2: 1, 90. + 4 Tesche 2: 2.
SV Wehen Wiesbaden (3rd) – SSV Jahn Regensburg (2nd) 2: 4 nP
On Tuesday
Eintracht Braunschweig (2nd) – Borussia Dortmund 0-2
Even the most die-hard BVB fans rub their eyes in amazement on this drink night. The forward is not Moukoko (saved), nor Haaland (injured), but Steffen Tigges. Steffen who? Tigges “already” is 22 years old, 1.93 meters tall, is German and is captain of the Dortmund Sub-23. He has already scored twelve goals and given seven assists in 18 games this season.
And Favre’s successor, Edin Terzic, throws Tigges straight into the icy water. A decision that does not come. Mats Hummels, who after harsh words after the Union bankruptcy (“Unforgivable!”) Followed up with deeds, scored early from a bustle to 1-0. Sancho adds shortly before the end. Duty accomplished, also because behind Hitz and Akanji (he arrives during the break for the scorer Hummels) they keep zero.
The objectives: 12. Hummels 0: 1, 90. + 2 Sancho 0: 2.
1. FC Union Berlin – SC Paderborn 07 (2.) 2: 3
Again and again for Urs Fischer and his iron men! Union Berlin comes flying out of the cup by three goals conceded in the first half. The favorite against a strong second division club starts from the beginning. Who rewards himself for great performance after a dusting, after a banner and after a counterattack. All running in the end is still ineffective.
The objectives: 3. Michel 0: 1, 6. Prömel 1: 1, 31. Srbeny 1: 2, 36. Michel 1: 3, 57. Hünemeier (own goal) 2: 3.
SV Elversberg (4th) – Borussia Mönchengladbach 0-5
No problem for the people of Gladbach and their Swiss. The big favorite does not play any games with the regional division and wins with confidence. Of course, a quick yellow-red card against Elversbergs Tekerci (26/31) helps the colts. Summer has a break, but Sippel plays for it. Elvedi and Embolo (up to 64th) play from the beginning, Michael Lang enters during the break, Denis Zakaria is not used.
The objectives: 5. Wolf 0: 1, 21. Benes 0: 2, 35. Stindl 0: 3, 69. Herrmann 0: 4, 83. Villalba (Penalty) 0: 5.
SSV Ulm 1846 (4.) – Schalke 04 1: 3
At least there is a small sense of accomplishment under the Christmas tree for crisis-ridden Schalke. The end of the table in the Bundesliga shows no weakness outside the Ulm regional division and wins the cup match in southern Germany. Acting coach Huub Stevens clenches his fist, especially when national player Serdar opens the scoring in the 27th minute with a hammer goal from 30 meters. A splendid blow to the battered royal blue soul. Everything is still waiting in Gelsenkirchen for the announcement of the new coach. Is it really Christian Gross? He’s an old friend of sports director Jochen Schneider …
The objectives: 27. Serdar 0: 1, 51. Raman 0: 2, 62. Raman 0: 3, 82. Reichert 1: 3.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – SpVgg Greuther Fürth (2nd) 8: 9 nP
Hot cup fight in Sinsheim: Fürths Seguin runs for the penalty … and Baumann on TSG goal really stops! That in minute 94. It would have been the coup de grace for the Bundesliga club. But Baumann saves his team from embarrassment. Renewal. There are no goals there. On the penalty shootout, Seguin does better and scores for his clubs. But: the thriller takes a long time. Stranger here, save there! In the end, the 18th penalty and Meyerhofer’s goal decide in favor of the lower class.
The objectives: 13. Kramaric 1: 0, 21. Ernst 1: 1, 46. Meyerhofer 1: 2, 49. Akpoguma 2: 2.
1. FC Cologne – VfL Osnabrück (2nd) 1-0
The Bundesliga club shows more trouble against the lower class than it would like. However: after the solid 0-0 victory in Leipzig, FC Köln and coach Gisdol have the following sense of accomplishment. For the winning goal, the coach pulls an old iron out of the hole. Cult forward Modeste plays from the start for the first time in a long time and hits right away.
The door: 45. +1 modest 1: 0.
FC Augsburg – RB Leipzig 0: 3
One thing clear in Augsburg. The guests from Saxony dominate the game from the start and take a corner kick from the start. Angelino over Orban, 1-0 for RB. In the second half, substitute Poulsen and Angelino close the bag. The Swiss Rubén Vargas plays for FCA.
The objectives: 11. Orban 0: 1, 75. Poulsen 0: 2, 82. Angelino 0: 3.
Dynamo Dresden (3rd) – Darmstadt 98 (2nd) 0: 3
The objectives: 24.Schnellhardt 0: 1, 59. Paik 0: 2, 71.Dursun 0: 3.
