This is the Corona vaccination center in the Allmend
The canton of Lucerne has presented its vaccination center. Around 200,000 Lucerne residents will be vaccinated against the corona virus at the end of June. The infrastructure is in place, the vaccine is there. The vaccination center in Allmend will likely only be accessible to the general public in spring.
“This is an important step, finally, towards normality,” explains the government adviser and head of the health and social department, Guido Graf, to the representatives of the media present. Graf and the Canton of Lucerne invited visitors to visit the new vaccination center in the Allmend exhibition halls on Wednesday. He and the head of the cantonal management staff, Vinzenz Graf, presented the installation.
Suddenly, things went quickly in Lucerne with the corona vaccination. The vaccine arrived on Tuesday, according to Guido Graf. And before the media representatives pass through hall 4 of the Lucerne exhibition center, which has been converted into a vaccination center, the governing council confirms: at 10:10 am the first person in Switzerland against Corona, a 90-year-old woman from Lucerne.

Then the tour begins. Vinzenz Graf explains how the vaccination center is set up and how a visit should work.
In the entrance area, the personal data of those vaccinated is first checked.
There is also a waiting room there, because people are funneled through the system through a drop system: a red-green traffic light system shows whether or not they are allowed to continue.
Continue down the stairs to large hall 4, where you must first register at check-in.
Then you will be vaccinated in one of the eight cabins. “We assume that we can vaccinate four to five people per cubicle in an hour,” says Vinzenz Graf. There is also space for another eight vaccination booths; then there would be 16 in all. To be safe, there are also two doctors’ booths in the vaccination area.
After vaccination, wait 15 minutes. For this, a waiting room was set up. “There will probably also be a drink for those who wait,” says Vinzenz Graf.
Then it goes to the independent check-out, where the vaccination certificate is issued and the appointment for the second vaccination is made. You do not exit by stairs, but by a ramp. “This is how we make sure the paths never cross,” explains Graf.
200,000 Lucerne residents should be vaccinated by the end of June
Therefore, the main place for corona vaccination in Lucerne is: the vaccine is already there. It is delivered by the Galliker company and prepared daily in the pharmacy of the vaccination center.
First, however, the vaccine is distributed to and administered to nursing homes and nursing homes. “We ask nursing homes how many people want vaccination”, confirms Guido Graf. Even if not all at-risk patients want to be vaccinated, they are generally ready to be vaccinated. “As I can see right now, people are positive about the vaccine,” says Graf. This is even more the case for the younger population. “I realize that many young people take their responsibility seriously and want to get vaccinated.”
However, young people must be patient: the canton of Lucerne received 5,000 doses of vaccine on Tuesday; by the third calendar week of 2021 it should be around 12,000 more. However, it could be March or April before the vaccination center is open to the general population. And yet: by the end of June 2021, around 200,000 people will be vaccinated in the canton of Lucerne. The vaccination center should be in operation for at least that long. The big vaccination campaign will likely last until the third quarter of 2021.
Even though vaccination rules are more important than ever
The fact that vaccination has happened so quickly in the canton of Lucerne is due to the fact that several scenarios had already been worked out in the summer, explains Guido Graf. It also emphasizes:
“It is not a race.”
The vaccination campaign is coordinated between the cantons of central Switzerland and agreements are also being signed with other cantons. “It is a success for Switzerland.” There are feelings of relief and triumph in the presentation of the vaccination center. We can finally fight the virus, the new infrastructure seems to be saying. “You can be happy,” says Guido Graf. “It must be a sign: the vaccine is there and it goes on. But caution must remain. “The mask requirement, distance rules and hygiene regulations remain unavoidable.” We still need some time until we get the virus under control. “
