90-year-old Lucerne vaccinated against Corona as the first person in Switzerland
The largest vaccination campaign in Swiss history started on Wednesday morning. In the canton of Lucerne, a 90-year-old woman was the first to be vaccinated against the corona virus.
A 90-year-old resident of a nursing home in a rural Lucerne municipality was vaccinated with the Pfizer / BionTech-approved vaccine on Wednesday morning. It is the first vaccination against Covid 19 in Switzerland, as the canton announced in a press release.
The first 107,000 doses of vaccines from manufacturer Pfizer / Biontech arrived in Switzerland by land on Tuesday. They were then distributed to the cantons by the army pharmacy.
In the coming days, more nursing home and nursing home residents will be vaccinated. Lucerne Health Director Guido Graf says:
“I am very satisfied that we have now been able to start vaccinations in the canton of Lucerne. These vaccines are an important element in the fight against coronavirus. “
Thanks to the great commitment of everyone involved, it was possible to start this vaccination before Christmas.
Vaccines for the population since late spring 2021
The prioritization of people who can be vaccinated is generally based on the federal vaccination strategy. The population of the canton of Lucerne will probably be able to be vaccinated from the end of spring 2021. Vaccinations are carried out at the vaccination center of the Lucerne exhibition center and, depending on the quantity and delivery time, elsewhere of the canton of Lucerne. Afterwards, doctors’ offices and pharmacies should also be able to give vaccinations. For non-commuters who cannot go to a vaccination center, mobile teams are being used or transportation options are being explored. Vaccination is free for the population.
If all goes according to plan, Swissmedic grants the necessary approvals and the cantons receive the required number of vaccination doses on time, all Lucerne residents who want to be vaccinated must be vaccinated in early fall 2021.
