Henrik Kristoffersen wins the Madonna di Campiglio night slalom ahead of his compatriot Sebastian Foss-Solevaag. Loïc Meillard is the best 11 Swiss.
The podium
- 1. Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR) 1: 35.35
- 2. Sebastian Foss-Solevaag (NOR) +0.33
- 3. Alex Vinatzer (ITA) +0.34
In the second race of the night slalom at Madonna di Campiglio, Henrik Kristoffersen opened the button after the last difficult weeks with disappointing results. With his aggressive driving style, as usual in other years, the Norwegian was 12th after the first round, a mark that no other driver could beat.
Even compatriot Sebastian Foss-Solevaag couldn’t undermine this despite a huge 1.25-second lead, but he snatched young Italian Alex Vinatzer close to second place and secured Norway a double win.
Yule and Zenhouses
For once, things did not turn out as expected for the Swiss. Ramon Zenhäusern, who had won the first slalom stage at Alta Badia on Monday, failed to build on his good starting position in 2nd place after Round 1 and fell back to 13th 8 tenths behind after a losing streak.
Daniel Yule, who had already won twice on this route, fared even worse in the second race. The 27-year-old even missed the top 20 on the battered track at 22 (+1.26). Loïc Meillard achieved the best result for Swiss-Ski, who climbed 6th to 11th (+0, 64) improved.
The other swiss
- 18. Tanguy Nef +1.01
- Not in the second round: Luca Aerni (36th), Noel von Grünigen (43rd), Sandro Simonet, Marc Rochat (both eliminated)
Slope suffered
Spring conditions at Madonna di Campiglio in the 500th slalom in World Cup history visibly affected the slope in both rounds. Only 3 drivers outside the top 30 qualified for the second race, as the slope was already very steep.
So it goes
After the short Christmas break, the World Cup continues on December 28 in Bormio with a relegation. A super-G follows the next day. For slalom specialists, the next race is on January 6 in Zagreb.
