The Biontech and Pfizer vaccine has been approved in Switzerland since the weekend, and the first people will receive their first dose on Wednesday. Moderna’s vaccine, which is produced in part in Valais near Lonza, should also be approved soon. Both are so-called mRNA vaccines, which do not contain weakened or killed viruses like previous vaccines, but only the building instructions for a component of the coronavirus, a protein on the surface of the virus.
