Corona press conference – “It is very obvious that the new Corona variant has already been introduced”

It was good that vaccination could start soon in Switzerland, said Rudolf Hauri, a doctor from the canton of Zug and president of the Association of Cantonal Doctors, in Point de Presse. But there should be no competition between the cantons.

“We are not in a race where seconds are important,” Hauri said. Immunization testing, instruction and infrastructure must be perfect. The point is that everyone is well positioned to start vaccinating.

Sufficient staff should be recruited and vaccine storage and distribution organized. Vaccinations outside of medical centers and offices are only possible if enough vaccines are available.

Deceptive stability

Basically, the situation is still tense, stability can be misleading, Hauri said. Furthermore, the mutation of the virus now raises questions. Even if the mutated virus is unlikely to make you more ill, the large number of transmissions is a problem: Because it apparently spreads faster, the virus could result in a further increase in hospitalizations.

So if you want to avoid the Crown’s measures and continue your activities in other cantons, you act in the short term and with little solidarity, because that contributes to the spread, Hauri said. Compliance with the regulations during the holidays is essential.

Contact tracing is also currently in full swing, Hauri said. The test centers are well used, “at this time often also due to vacationers.” Sometimes people had to wait and priorities had to be set in places, Hauri said. The situation is slowly calming down. It should continue to be tested as much as possible, Hauri emphasized.
