Chaos in front of the North Macedonian embassy in Bern: People have been queuing on Monday since the early hours of the morning, regardless of distance regulations. A reader reporter: “Corona’s measures are not being complied with, the police are in place.”
The reason for the rush: The federal government has tightened quarantine regulations and removed North Macedonia from the list. He announced it on Friday. Now, many of the North Macedonians living in Switzerland have decided to travel to their home country on short notice. Many of them apparently had to obtain the necessary travel documents from the embassy in Bern, as several eyewitness photos show.
Kept in peace
Due to the crowds, there was a police operation, as Ramona Mock, spokesperson for the Bern cantonal police, confirmed to VIEW. “People wore masks, but we had to inform them about the distance regulations,” Mock says.
The police are now in contact with the embassy and making sure that federal guidelines are followed. “Part of a sidewalk has been closed so that people can line up properly.” The operation was peaceful.
The North Macedonian embassy has not yet been reached for comment. (noo)
